2021 iPad Pro & iPad mini first look shows minor design tweaks

The leak: Newly surfaced dummy units give us our first real-world look at new iPads coming soon, according to Sonny Dickson (57.7% accurate).

  • The new iPad Pro looks identical to the current generation, with virtually no design changes whatsoever…we’ve heard historically that the number of speaker holes is changing, though
  • As for the updated iPad mini, it’s not the full-screen redesign that many were hoping to see: Dickson says it’s just slighter thicker than the current generation (but with no explanation as to why)

Our take: This lines up with what other credible sources have said: no major design changes for iPad Pro or iPad mini this year. Everything new is happening on the inside.

First detailed iPhone 12 dummy units show iPad Pro-like design

The news: The first detailed (but still incomplete) iPhone 12 dummy units have surfaced, shared by Sonny Dickson (77.8% accurate).

  • As previously rumored, the design closely mirrors that of the iPad Pro
  • We don’t have a look at the notch in these photos, which on recent CAD models hasn’t shrunk
  • The camera setups (on all three sizes) is clearly off

Our take: The camera setups are clearly outdated as only two models in 2020 are said to have triple cameras. However, this is our best look yet at what the iPad Pro design languages looks like when applied to the iPhone. And it think it looks slick.

Redesigned iMac with ‘iPad Pro design language’ to debut at WWDC 2020

The news: Apple’s long awaited iMac redesign is finally happening on June 22, according to Sonny Dickson (77.8% accurate).

  • The new iMac will feature ‘iPad Pro design language’
  • The bezels will shrink, similar to the Pro Display XDR
  • T2 chip and AMD Navi GPU will likely be present
  • The Fusion Drive will no longer be an option, suggesting SSDs will be standard

Our take: This is the iMac so many of us have been waiting for. Very rarely to concepts actually translate into real products…but this may be an exception.
