  • Apple TV 6 refresh possible as soon as tomorrow

Apple TV 6 refresh possible as soon as tomorrow

The news: Apple may be finally updating the Apple TV very soon, according to a new asset published on iCloud and spotted by 9to5Mac (77% accurate).

    • A newly uploaded identifier called ‘AppleTV11,1’ doesn’t correspond to any existing model
    • Apple also uploaded four new assets corresponding to four new iPhones models being announced tomorrow

Our take: Previous reports suggested the Apple TV 6 may have been delayed until 2021, but it wouldn’t make sense for Apple to upload this identifier unless a launch was imminent, right? The only thing that makes me doubt this is the lack of an Apple TV mention in the Kang 康总 (97.8% accurate) leak dump.

  • Apple plans third special event for November 2020

Apple plans third special event for November 2020

The rumor: In addition to events in September and October, Apple is also preparing to host a third product unveil in November, according to Jon Prosser (74.5% accurate), L0vetodream (88.7% accurate) and Mark Gurman (87.8% accurate).

    • Apple Watch, iPad, iPhone and AirTag updates will all be complete by the end of October, leaving November wide-open for the following products:
    • With the median average accuracy of all 3 sources being 83.6%, the probability of this third Fall event is highly likely

Our take: A triple-event Fall series would be a fever dream in any other reality than the one we’re living in right now. With in-person gatherings not being a real possibility and Apple showing us in September that an event can be centered around 2-3 new products, this feels like the perfect cap to end Apple event season.

  • Revamped Apple TV models reportedly in testing with A12/14 chips

Revamped Apple TV models reportedly in testing with A12/14 chips

The rumor: Apple is working to expand Apple Arcade in the future with upgraded Apple TV hardware, according to Fudge (90.9% accurate).

    • Both a model with an A12x/z processor and ‘A14x-like’ chip are currently in development
    • Mark Gurman (87.8% accurate) suggested a new Apple TV could launch as soon as later this year
    • Apple is also said to be continuing work on a native game controller

Our take: Only Apple knows what the hold-up on these new Apple TV models is being caused by. We may still see one later this year, but it could have been delayed until 2021.

  • Apple TV 6 with new remote potentially delayed until 2021

Apple TV 6 with new remote potentially delayed until 2021

The rumor: The sixth-generation Apple TV originally set to debut later this year may not make the cut after all, according to Mark Gurman (86.7% accurate).

    • The new Apple TV will feature “a faster processor for improved gaming”
    • A refreshed remote is also coming, with Find My functionality built-in
    • The set-top box was initially scheduled to ship before the end of 2020, but now it may not come until sometime in 2021

Our take: I’m honestly impressed at this point that the Apple TV hasn’t been updated in three years. With the only internal improvement being a faster processor, it’s unclear what the hold-up really is. The new Find My features in the remote sound nice, but is this really what’s causing the continued delays?
