New iMac likely coming in August, no redesign expected

The rumor: Apple is preparing to release an updated version of the iMac in the coming weeks, according to Jon Prosser (78.4% accurate).

    • Unlike previously rumored, the machines will not be redesigned
    • The new models are set to launch sometime in August

Our take: While product launches in August aren’t common at all…it’s clear that Apple’s hardware launches have been all over the place this year. I can’t say much more…but I think Prosser is dead right on this one.

  • Redesigned iMac, AirPods Studio and AirTags postponed from WWDC

Redesigned iMac, AirPods Studio and AirTags postponed from WWDC

The news: While a redesigned iMac is still on track for release later in 2020, it won’t be happening at WWDC, according to Jon Prosser (81.3% accurate).

    • Prosser believes any and all WWDC hardware has been scraped
      • This includes AirPods Studio and AirTags, too
    • Sonny Dickson (77.8% accurate) previously stated that a refreshed iMac with iPad Pro-like design would be announced on June 22

Our take: Especially with this WWDC being online-only, everything is a toss-up. Prosser has the slight edge on Dickson here, but Dickson has been leaking for much, much longer. I could see it go either way at this point.

  • Redesigned iMac with ‘iPad Pro design language’ to debut at WWDC 2020

Redesigned iMac with ‘iPad Pro design language’ to debut at WWDC 2020

The news: Apple’s long awaited iMac redesign is finally happening on June 22, according to Sonny Dickson (77.8% accurate).

    • The new iMac will feature ‘iPad Pro design language’
    • The bezels will shrink, similar to the Pro Display XDR
    • T2 chip and AMD Navi GPU will likely be present
    • The Fusion Drive will no longer be an option, suggesting SSDs will be standard

Our take: This is the iMac so many of us have been waiting for. Very rarely to concepts actually translate into real products…but this may be an exception.
