2nd iPad Pro refresh likely happening later this year

The rumor: Apple is planning to update the iPad Pro for a second time this year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (74.6% accurate).

    • A Mini-LED display will be the headlining feature, likely alongside support for 5G connectivity
    • Kuo says the refresh is happening in the fourth quarter of this year

Our take: Although rumors or a second iPad Pro refresh this year died down recently, Kuo generally has a pretty good pulse on whether or not new products are coming. This will be a substantial iPad Pro update as we haven’t seen Mini-LED on an Apple product yet.

  • Redesigned 24-inch iMac could launch as soon as Q4 2020

Redesigned 24-inch iMac could launch as soon as Q4 2020

The rumor: Apple is planning to give the smaller iMac a major upgrade as soon as the fourth quarter of this year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (76.6% accurate).

    • The new design with slimmer bezels will accompany the introduction of Apple Silicon
    • The redesigned iMac is launching between the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2021

Our take: This is the redesigned iMac that everyone has been waiting for. The bezel shrink is going to be insanely nice. Seems like Apple Silicon is starting with their smaller products before bringing it to more powerful models.

  • Resigned 14/16-inch MacBook Pros coming in 2021

Resigned 14/16-inch MacBook Pros coming in 2021

The rumor: Revamped MacBook Pro models are launching sometime next year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (67.6% accurate).

    • The new models will feature Apple Silicon inside and are releasing in 2021
    • The first new Mac with Apple Silicon will likely be a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro

Our take: It looks like next year is when the next major MacBook Pro refresh is happening (similar to the big revamp Apple did in 2016). I really hope we getting some rounded edges on these Macs similar to the concept image above.

  • Ming-Chi Kuo says iPhone 12 won’t include headphones or charger in box

Ming-Chi Kuo says iPhone 12 won’t include headphones or charger in box

The sadness: Following the lead of other sources, Ming-Chi Kuo (76.4% accurate) says that he also thinks Apple will be slimming down in-box accessories for the iPhone 12.

    • Only a Lightning to USB-C cable will be included in the box of new phones this year
    • Apple plans to start selling a new 20W charger as a separate accessory
    • Later this year, even the iPhone SE won’t include a charger

Our take: Yeah so, this is simply disappointing. A significant number of people can barely keep track of the one charger included with their iPhone: if Apple doesn’t include a charger at all this year, it’s going to seriously and negatively affect those users.

  • iPhone 12 may remove EarPods from the box

iPhone 12 may remove EarPods from the box

The news: For the first time ever, Apple might not be including free headphones in the box when you buy the iPhone 12 this September, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors).

    • To encourage users to make the jump to AirPods, Apple is said to be running some special promo in the second half of 2020

Our take: If removing the headphones jack was a battle, this is war. While I personally haven’t touched the in-box, wired EarPods since 2016 when AirPods first came out…they are really important to most iPhone users. Removing them is going to make a billion dollar company look relatively pathetic. At least offer EarPods for free as an option for the users who do want them!
