iPhone SE 3 could start at $269 as trial production begins soon

The rumor: Apple’s next-generation iPhone SE is set to begin trial production soon, according to MyDrivers (44.4% accurate).

Here’s the report…

  • Trial production is set to begin soon, which is the step before mass production and ultimately the product’s launch
  • Design will be identical to the current model, with the same 4.7-inch display, home button with Touch ID and 12MP camera…but new A15 and 5G chips will be added and RAM could increase from 3 ⮕ 4GB
  • Pricing is said to be between $269 and $399, making this phone competitive with other lower-end Android options

Our take: $269 would be ludicrous pricing for this phone, and I just don’t see that happening…I think something closer to $399 sounds more realistic especially considering MyDrivers’ track record.

iPhone 14 could get new 2TB storage option

The rumor: Apple could double the top-tier storage option for the 2022 iPhone, according to MyDrivers (not yet rated).

  • 2 terabytes of storage could land on iPhone sometime next year, with Apple rumored to switch from TLC to QLC flash memory, even though “QLC performance and reliability are not as good as TLC flash storage”
  • However, Jon Prosser (74.6% accurate) recently shut down this idea and doesn’t believe we will see 2TB next year

Our take: Gonna say no way on this one. MyDrivers has a despicable track record and we just got 1TB this year. I didn’t see a need for 1TB, so I certainly don’t see a need for 2TB.

iPhone 13 could support faster 25W charging

The rumor: Apple may again be upgrading the charging speed on the new iPhones this year, according to MyDrivers, who historically has a poor track record.

  • iPhone 13 could support 25W charging, faster than the 20W charging that is currently supported
  • The only other MyDrivers rumors we have ever covered have been relatively inaccurate

Our take: As sketchy as MyDrivers’ track record has been thus far…this isn’t too hard to believe. A minor increase of 5W doesn’t sound too unrealistic and would certainly add to the (small) list of iPhone 13 upgrades.

New iPad Pro could launch as early as September

The rumor: Apple may update the iPad Pro for a second time in 2020, according to mydrivers.com.

  • A new iPad Pro may be releasing in September/October
  • Mini-LED and 5G are rumored to be the flagship features
  • Other sources have suggested a new iPad Pro isn’t coming until early 2021
  • Apple updated the iPad Pro early this year in March

Our take: With the iPhones being delayed this year, I think it’s reasonable to believe that another new version of the iPad Pro has also been delayed or isn’t coming until next year. Apple has updated an iPad twice in one year before, but it still seems relatively unlikely.

iPad Air 4 to have 11-inch display & A14 chip, coming in March 2021

The rumor: Apple is prepping a new iPad Air model for release in early 2021, according to mydrivers.com (first spotted by MacRumors).

Tech Specs

“According to news from foreign experts,” here’s what is coming to the next iPad Air:

  • 11-inch Liquid Retina display
  • A14 processor
  • 128, 256 & 512 GB variants
  • USB-C
  • Quad stereo speakers
  • $649 starting price
  • March 2021 release

Our take: If Apple does adopt what is basically the iPad Pro design on the new iPad Air, I would say it’s almost certain that we’ll see a larger screen on a future iPad Pro. If these above specs are correct, the 2021 iPad Air is going to be incredibly appealing.
