Oh no. This is Apple’s horrible new notch for iPhone 14.

The rumor: Apple is nixing the notch in favor of a dual-cutout design, according to Ross Young (100% accurate).

    • On iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple is apparently planning to place 2 cutouts in the display for the camera and Face ID array…rather than a larger single cutout to house them both as we’ve seen since iPhone X
    • Young specifically says that it will not be a single pill-shaped design as we have seen on Huawei phones

Our take: Well, I hate this. If anyone else, other than Young who is 100% accurate, said that Apple would be opting for a an off-center dual-cutout design…I just wouldn’t believe it. But, I have to considering his track record. So as of right now, this is the design…which actually leaked months ago from an account called ShrimpApplePro on Twitter.

Redesigned 27-inch iMac launching in early 2022 with Mini-LED 120Hz ProMotion display

The rumor: Apple is preparing to launch the redesigned iMac with Apple Silicon early next year, according to display analyst Ross Young (100% accurate).

    • The new iMac, which is rumored to launch between January and March 2022, is said to feature a Mini-LED display capable of 120Hz ProMotion…just like the new MacBook Pro models that just dropped
    • A previous tweet from Young suggested that this new display would be a standalone monitor, but the report has since been updated

Our take: Looks like the redesigned, larger iMac won’t end up having a larger display after all: Young says it’s sticking at 27 inches. But ProMotion coming? This is the first we’ve heard of the feature dropping on an iMac. Normally I would be skeptical. But Young was the first source to call ProMotion on the new MacBook Pros…and we indeed got it.

Apple Watch Series 8 could come in 3 different sizes

The rumor: Apple is planning to introduce a third size variant for the Apple Watch Series 8, according to Ross Young (100% accurate).

    • Apple currently sells 41 and 45mm watches, but the new report suggests that a third size could also be added…we’re just not sure if it would be smaller or larger
    • Prior rumors have pointed to a rugged, more durable Apple Watch debuting next year alongside other Series 8 models

Our take: I didn’t get this rumor at first…but as soon as I looked at my wrist, I realized that I could wear a larger face on my arm. I think a slightly larger 48 or 49mm watch could look great on folks with larger wrists. This is just speculation though, as Young didn’t clarify which direction the size change would head.

120Hz display may land on new MacBook Pros next week

The rumor: Mini-LED tech won’t be the only screen upgrade on the new M1X MacBook Pro models, according to Ross Young (100% accurate).

    • Apple is planning to bring a 120Hz ProMotion displays to the next-generation 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros that are set to debut at Apple’s ‘Unleashed’ event next week
    • This is the first rumor for a 120Hz display, but Ross Young does have an impeccable track record for leaks like this

Our take: This will be game changing if we see this next week. And I wouldn’t believe it unless it ross from Young, who has never gotten an Apple screen leak wrong yet. I can’t imagine how good macOS would look at 120Hz…

  • iPhone SE 3 coming in 2022, radical redesign in 2023

iPhone SE 3 coming in 2022, radical redesign in 2023

The leak: Apple’s next iPhone SE will be coming sometime in 2022, according to Ross Young (100% accurate).

    • What’s happening on next year’s SE: 4.7-inch LCD display & 5G connectivity
    • And the one coming in 2023: 6.1-inch LCD display with a punch hole design, rather than a notch

Our take: Considering that the 2023 iPhone is supposed to go all-screen with no interruptions, it seems possible that the lower-cost iPhone SE that year could get something wild like a punch hole. But seeing that the punch hole design is relatively premium right now, it will be interesting to see how Apple markets it.

  • Rumors persist of no 120Hz display on iPhone 12 Pro

Rumors persist of no 120Hz display on iPhone 12 Pro

The rumor: No iPhone 12 released this year will have hardware capable of producing 120Hz imagery, according to Ross Young (not yet rated).

    • The iPhone 12 Pro series may lack 120Hz driver ICs, meaning that ProMotion simply won’t be possible
    • Young has previously said the 120Hz on iPhone is coming in 2021

Our take: I’m still extremely split on whether or not I personally believe that 120Hz is coming this year. Many sources were saying that 120Hz was coming early on, but more recently almost everything is saying that it isn’t. Considering Young got the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 screen specs spot-on, I’m more inclined to believe this unfortunate iPhone news…
