The fun: Per usual, iOS 14 features stunning new wallpapers that you can get on any device by scrolling down.
There are a total of 6 new wallpapers in beta 1, with the possibility that more could be added in the future (possibly in the GM)
Our take: The dark blue and green one is the best. Plus, I’m super happy that Apple included light/dark mode versions yet again. Makes it that much more special.
The news: Headlining features for the next iOS update may have been revealed by L0vetodream (90.5% accurate).
The name will remain iOS
Redesigned home screen, with support for widgets and tweaked “alignment”
Incoming call UI doesn’t take up the whole display
App clips are mini-apps that will allow you to interact with a native interface instantly
Our take: These leaks appear to have originated from a source on Weibo, and it’s unclear if these are just predictions or hard intel. We’ll see in a few hours.
The news: Parts of the next iPadOS update have been potentially revealed by L0vetodream (90.5% accurate).
Sidecar, the feature that allows you to display your Mac screen on iPad, will be redesigned
“Hand written input” will be “improved and enhanced”
Our take: These leaks appear to have originated from a source on Weibo, and it’s unclear if these are just predictions or hard intel. We’ll see in a few hours.
The news: The next macOS update has potentially been revealed by Lovetodream (9o.5% accurate).
The name this year is said to be ‘Big Sur’
A major UI overhaul will be happening
Safari is getting a “huge update”
Our take: These leaks appear to have originated from a source on Weibo, and it’s unclear if these are just predictions or hard intel. We’ll see in a few hours.
The news: The watchOS 7 update has been seemingly detailed by L0vetodream (90.5% accurate).
Sleep monitoring
Updated home page that seemingly can be shared(?)
“Hand-wash monitoring”
Our take: These leaks appear to have originated from a source on Weibo, and it’s unclear if these are just predictions or hard intel. We’ll see in a few hours.
The news: The first detailed (but still incomplete) iPhone 12 dummy units have surfaced, shared by Sonny Dickson (77.8% accurate).
As previously rumored, the design closely mirrors that of the iPad Pro
We don’t have a look at the notch in these photos, which on recent CAD models hasn’t shrunk
The camera setups (on all three sizes) is clearly off
Our take: The camera setups are clearly outdated as only two models in 2020 are said to have triple cameras. However, this is our best look yet at what the iPad Pro design languages looks like when applied to the iPhone. And it think it looks slick.
Here are the first iPhone 12 dummies: 3 sizes (5.4, 6.1, 6.7). Flat edges, 3 cameras on the bump like recent molds. Notch, cameras should not be taken 100%, but chassis promising. pic.twitter.com/fcw3bLhVEF
The news: While a redesigned iMac is still on track for release later in 2020, it won’t be happening at WWDC, according to Jon Prosser (81.3% accurate).
Prosser believes any and all WWDC hardware has been scraped
This includes AirPods Studio and AirTags, too
Sonny Dickson (77.8% accurate) previously stated that a refreshed iMac with iPad Pro-like design would be announced on June 22
Our take: Especially with this WWDC being online-only, everything is a toss-up. Prosser has the slight edge on Dickson here, but Dickson has been leaking for much, much longer. I could see it go either way at this point.
Looking like any possible hardware has been scrapped for WWDC tomorrow 🤔
Might be wrong about this one. Would love to be wrong!
The news: Apple’s mixed AR/VR headset “will make it almost impossible for a user to differentiate the virtual world from the real one,” according to Mark Gurman(84.3% accurate).
The wearable device has ultra-high-resolution screens and a cinematic speaker system
Apps primarily focused on gaming and watching videos will be available on a dedicated App Store
Siri will also be present on the headset
Our take: I’ve tried VR a handful of times but have never been impressed yet–I fail to be enthralled in the different world that the tech promises. I think if anybody can do it, it will be Apple. But even then I’m not sold yet.
The news: Just over 10 years after switching away from the iPhoneOS moniker, Apple may be reintroducing it at WWDC this year, according to Jon Prosser (86.7% accurate).
This would align the mobile operating system with every other major platform (ex. macOS, watchOS, tvOS)
iOS 14 is shaping up to be a smaller ‘S’ upgrade, similar to iOS 12
Our take: Shocking, but sensible. When you line every other platform up, there’s one outlier: iOS. Everything old really is new again.
