New M1X MacBook Pro display resolutions revealed in macOS Monterey beta
The leak: Apple has likely referenced the new display resolutions for the upcoming 14/16-inch MacBook Pro models, as spotted first by MacRumors (78% accurate, link).
- The leaked “3024 x 1964 Retina” and “3456 x 2234 Retina” display resolutions do not correspond to any Apple products past or present
- The moderate increases in resolution suggest an increase from ~226 to ~250 pixels per inch (PPI) which translates to clearer and sharper images
Our take: It appears the new MacBook Pro displays are going to look incredible considering they will be Mini-LED, as well. Shouldn’t be much longer before they’re announced, now…

Gurman: iPhone 14 will be ‘a complete redesign’
The rumor: Apple is planning a radical design change for iPhone 14, according to Mark Gurman (87.3% accurate, via Power On).
- “With the iPhone 14, you can expect new entry-level and Pro models and a complete redesign” Gurman says
- The new design, which may look like a modern, reincarnated iPhone 4, was first shared by Jon Prosser earlier this month
Our take: With two of the top sources calling a redesign for iPhone 14 already, I’d bet it’s almost certainly happening. And from everything we’ve seen, the 2022 iPhones really will be stunning.

Future iPad Pro will have repositioned Apple logo & cameras
The rumor: Apple is planning to make landscape mode default on a future iPad Pro, according to dylandkt (75% accurate).
- The Apple logo, camera module and even OS will be oriented for landscape usage first, rather than portrait orientation which has been standard since 2010…although Dylan notes that he is unsure whether or not this will make the cut for next year’s model
- Apple is rumored to bring a glass design to the 2022 iPad Pro, along with reverse wireless charging
Our take: With the launch of the Magic Keyboard and recent iPadOS updates, this sounds solid to me. Many folks now use their iPad Pro models in landscape almost exclusively so reorienting the design to optimize for that is a better reflection of the times.

Unboxings show first hands-on of iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro
The news: Apple’s embargo for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro have been lifted for members of the media to share their first impressions online.

The takeaways so far….
- The lack of plastic wrap has made the unboxing experience less satisfying than before
- Some reviewers still wish there was a charger in the box
- Pro colors are quite subtle across the board and more vibrancy would be appreciated
- The Midnight iPhone 13 is not exactly black, it has a slight blue tint
- Bigger camera bumps are larger than you’d think in real life
- But the camera bump causes the phones rock less on a flat surface
- Overall, the design changes are subtle year over year, but the weight difference between iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 is noticeable
Our take: Strictly looking at the unboxing experience…it seems pretty underwhelming this year. But the new phones look incredible and I can’t wait for mine to come in on Friday.
