  • Apple Fitness subscription service coming soon

Apple Fitness subscription service coming soon

The news: Alongside the release of a broader subscription bundle, Apple is also preparing to reveal a new Fitness subscription service, according to Mark Gurman (86.6% accurate).

    • Development of new Fitness functionality leaked months ago, when MacRumors obtained imagery from a leaked build of iOS 14
      • “With the fitness app, users may be able to download fitness videos that cover a range of different workout options and activities, getting guidance on completing those activities on the Apple Watch. Apple provides a gallery of different workout routines that can be downloaded and synced to the Apple Watch, with the videos themselves shown on the iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV.”
    • An update to iOS 14 is coming later this year with an updated Fitness app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV

Our take: Aside from Apple Music, I think this is the other subscription service that I’ll be signing up for. Seems to be a great offering already from the leaks alone.

  • ‘Apple One’ services bundle releasing in October

‘Apple One’ services bundle releasing in October

The news: Apple is planning to release multiple variants of a subscription services bundle in October of this year, according to Mark Gurman (86.6% accurate).

    • There will reportedly be multiple tiers, consisting of the following makeup:
      • Music/TV+
      • Music/TV+/Arcade
      • Music/TV+/Arcade/News+
      • Music/TV+/Arcade/News+/iCloud storage
    • ‘Apple One’ is likely coming in an update to iOS 14 later in 2020
    • The bundled savings will be β€œ$2 to upwards of $5 a month”

Our take: I’m surprised it has taken Apple this long to get a proper bundle in the works. That being said, I don’t think I’ll be subscribing unless there’s an Apple Music and iCloud storage bundle. None of the other services are that compelling to me right now.

  • Apple Watch Series 6 & new iPad rumored for September release

Apple Watch Series 6 & new iPad rumored for September release

The rumor: Apple is planning to release the Apple Watch Series 6 and a new iPad model ahead of the iPhone 12 event in October, according to Jon Prosser (77.8% accurate).

    • The new Watch and iPad could drop as early as the week of September 7
    • Both products are said to come via a press release in Apple Newsroom

Our take: It will be wild if Apple actually ends up releasing both a new Apple Watch and iPad ahead of the rumored iPhone 12 event in October. The Apple Watch alone is a huge product, and I can’t imagine Apple updating it through a simple press release. Still, Prosser’s track record for dates is very, very good.

  • iPhone 12 may ship in October, 12 Pro in November

iPhone 12 may ship in October, 12 Pro in November

The rumor: Apple will release the standard iPhone 12 models in October and higher-end 12 Pro variations in November, according to Jon Prosser (77.8% accurate).

    • You’ll be able to pre-order to iPhone 12 as soon as the week of October 12
    • iPhone 12 devices could ship out the week of October 19
    • Specific iPhone 12 Pro shipping info has not yet been decided yet

Our take: This schedule is reminiscent of what Apple did with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X releases in 2017. That being said, Mark Gurman (86.6% accurate) seems to think something is off here… Dates below are very believable, yet I’m personally surprised that this info has surfaced already.

  • iOS 13.6.1 released with system storage & ‘green tint’ fix

iOS 13.6.1 released with system storage & ‘green tint’ fix

The news: Apple just released iOS 13.6.1 with bug fixes and other improvements.

    • Addresses an issue where unneeded system data files might not be automatically deleted when available storage is low
    • Fixes a thermal management issue that caused some displays to exhibit a green tint
    • Fixes an issue where Exposure Notifications could be disabled for some users

    Some peripheral details:

    • There are no security updates in iOS 13.6.1
    • Updates normally drop at 10am PST, this one came hours later than usual
    • This could be the last update to iOS 13, prior to the release of iOS 14 this Fall

Our take: Apple is continuing small development work on iOS 13 to bridge the gap between now and the release of iOS 14 sometime in the next couple of months.

  • Non-5G iPhone 12 may launch in early 2021

Non-5G iPhone 12 may launch in early 2021

The news: A 4G variant of the iPhone 12 will launch in early 2021, according to Wedbush Securities (100% accurate).

    • This 4G iPhone 12 could release around February of 2021, following the release of new 5G iPhones later this year
    • Wedbush says it’s expected to cost around $800

Our take: This is the first we’ve really heard of Apple working on a non-5G version of the iPhone 12. Wedbush’s track record is actually insanely good though…even though it would be a weird strategy. Why? Because Apple’s 5G iPhones are supposed to start at around $700. What’s the point of a non-5G iPhone that costs more than a 5G version?

  • watchOS 7 public beta released

    watchOS 7 public beta released

The news: Apple just released the first public beta of watchOS 7 to public beta testers.

    • watchOS 7 includes new watch faces and sharing features, sleep tracking and hand-washing detection
    • This is the first time Apple has ever offered a public beta for watchOS
    • You can sign up for all of Apple’s public beta releases here

Our take: I’ve never jumped on a watchOS beta before, but I’m doing it this time around. I’m curious to see the hand-washing feature in action, plus I’d love to get more data about how I sleep each night.

  • Redesigned 24-inch iMac could launch as soon as Q4 2020

Redesigned 24-inch iMac could launch as soon as Q4 2020

The rumor: Apple is planning to give the smaller iMac a major upgrade as soon as the fourth quarter of this year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (76.6% accurate).

    • The new design with slimmer bezels will accompany the introduction of Apple Silicon
    • The redesigned iMac is launching between the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2021

Our take: This is the redesigned iMac that everyone has been waiting for. The bezel shrink is going to be insanely nice. Seems like Apple Silicon is starting with their smaller products before bringing it to more powerful models.

  • Resigned 14/16-inch MacBook Pros coming in 2021

Resigned 14/16-inch MacBook Pros coming in 2021

The rumor: Revamped MacBook Pro models are launching sometime next year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (67.6% accurate).

    • The new models will feature Apple Silicon inside and are releasing in 2021
    • The first new Mac with Apple Silicon will likely be a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro

Our take: It looks like next year is when the next major MacBook Pro refresh is happening (similar to the big revamp Apple did in 2016). I really hope we getting some rounded edges on these Macs similar to the concept image above.

  • Rumors persist of no 120Hz display on iPhone 12 Pro

Rumors persist of no 120Hz display on iPhone 12 Pro

The rumor: No iPhone 12 released this year will have hardware capable of producing 120Hz imagery, according to Ross Young (not yet rated).

    • The iPhone 12 Pro series may lack 120Hz driver ICs, meaning that ProMotion simply won’t be possible
    • Young has previously said the 120Hz on iPhone is coming in 2021

Our take: I’m still extremely split on whether or not I personally believe that 120Hz is coming this year. Many sources were saying that 120Hz was coming early on, but more recently almost everything is saying that it isn’t. Considering Young got the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 screen specs spot-on, I’m more inclined to believe this unfortunate iPhone news…

  • New photos show same-size notch for iPhone 12

New photos show same-size notch for iPhone 12

The leak: New photos of the iPhone 12’s display panel have surfaced, courtesy of Mr.white (25% accurate) and @1nsane_dev.

    • The photos show an unchanged, iPhone X-style notch
    • Previous rumors suggested the notch would be shrinking…significantly

Our take: I don’t believe it: no way Apple ships 4, 2020 handsets with the same notch from 2017. I don’t know where these leaks are coming from, but I just can’t fathom these phones being competitive with the old design.
