  • Apple’s VR glasses to be unveiled ‘in next several months’ at in-person event

Apple’s VR glasses to be unveiled ‘in next several months’ at in-person event

The rumor: Apple’s pricey, virtual reality headset is just months away from being unveiled, according to Mark Gurman (89.1% accurate).

    • The new report, posted to Bloomberg, says the headset is coming “sometime in the next several months,” likely at an in-person event so that members of the press can go hands-on with the new product in a controlled environment
    • Apple’s VR headset will be relatively lightweight and include 12+ cameras, dual-8K displays and advanced eye-tracking…but may cost about $3,000

Our take: With Apple’s entrance into VR, they’re going to want complete control over how the device is demoed…so seeding products for review (as they have done throughout the pandemic) isn’t an option for them here. Interesting report from Gurman who believes Apple will go back to in-person events as soon as it’s possible.

  • Apple announces WWDC 2021: June 7-11 & online-only

    Apple announces WWDC 2021: June 7-11 & online-only

The news: Apple has confirmed the dates for WWDC 2021 in their latest newsroom update.

    • When: Monday, June 7 to Friday, June 11, 2021
    • Where: Online! For the second year running (due to COVID-19), WWDC will not take place at a large conference center in California as it has historically
    • What: New versions of iOS, watchOS, macOS and tvOS…and Apple’s AR glasses?

Our take: I’m super confused by the branding this year, because those glasses in the artwork absolutely seem to be referencing some with AR capability. Apple though, is not rumored to introduce those for some time now. I have a feeling this is more of a tease than anything else…

  • In split from recent trend, Apple has yet to announce WWDC 2021

In split from recent trend, Apple has yet to announce WWDC 2021

The (lack of) news: Apple has yet to announce the dates for this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

Here’s when the dates have been announce historically:

    • 2012: April 25
    • 2013: April 24
    • 2014: April 3
    • 2015: April 14
    • 2016: April 18
    • 2017: February 16
    • 2018: March 13
    • 2019: March 14
    • 2020: March 13
    • 2021: ?

Our take: While the conference will likely happen in June per usual, Apple may be waiting to announce WWDC until late April. Why? If the event is primarily digital like last year, months of notice in advance would not be necessary.

  • Apple targets April for next special event, March event now unlikely

Apple targets April for next special event, March event now unlikely

The rumor: Apple’s first event of 2021 will actually be held in April, according to Jon Prosser (78.2% accurate).

Our take: It seems like Apple may have changed some plans last-minute. Week-to-week, a ton of sources have flipped on their reporting. Last week, we heard iPad Pro, AirTags and AirPods were ready to go. This week, DigiTimes (65.1% accurate) now says the new iPad Pro isn’t coming until April at the earliest and L0vetodream (89% accurate) and Ku0 (76.6% accurate) said AirPods aren’t releasing now either…

  • Ahead of Apple’s March 23 event, 4 new products are reportedly ready to ship

Ahead of Apple’s March 23 event, 4 new products are reportedly ready to ship

The rumor: Ahead of a rumored March 23 event, Jon Prosser (78.2% accurate) has shared a number of products that could launch at any time.

    • Here’s what Prosser says is ready: Apple TV, new AirPods, AirTags and iPad Pro
    • This being said, it’s unlikely that we’ll see all of this in March alone

Our take: I think AirTags and a new iPad Pro will be announced on March 23 at an Apple event, with the possibility that an updated Apple TV makes an appearance, as well. Don’t think new AirPods are coming until April/May.

  • Apple March event scheduled for the 23rd (sources)

Apple March event scheduled for the 23rd (sources)

The rumor: Apple is definitely holding an event in March, according to Kang 康总 (97.8% accurate) and Jon Prosser (78.2% accurate).

    • Both sources, rated above 75% accurate, say that Apple has set the date, March 23, for their first special event of 2021
    • OnePlus is rumored to hold a product unveil on the same day, as well

Our take: Everything has been pointing to Apple holding an event in March, and two of the best sources out there have just confirmed it. I’d expect Apple to announce the event on March 16.

  • New AirPods & iMacs not expected to launch in March

New AirPods & iMacs not expected to launch in March

The rumor: Apple won’t be releasing new AirPods or iMac models in March, according to Jon Prosser (78.2% accurate).

Our take: The more I think about next month’s products, the more it feels like Apple will hold a mini keynote similar to the three Fall events laster. Main product unveil + accessory seems to be a trend for them.

  • Apple March 2021 event possible, but not on the 16th

Apple March 2021 event possible, but not on the 16th

The rumor: Apple will not be holding a special event on March 16th, according to Mark Gurman (89.1% accurate).

    • In a tweet to AppleTrack, Gurman clarified that he believes there may be an event in March…just not on the 16th
    • Jon Prosser (78.2% accurate) previously suggested Tuesday, March 16 as the date for Apple’s next event

Our take: With the March 16 date being months old at this point, I had my doubts about it holding up still. But it looks like there’s still hope for a March event, after all!

Apple’s big announcement: 3 new Racial Equity and Justice Initiative projects

The news: Apple just announced three major initiatives as part of its $100 million Racial Equity and Justice Initiative (REJI).

    • Third, venture capital funding for Black and Brown entrepreneurs: $10 million for Harlem Capital and $25 million for Siebert Williams Shank’s Clear Vision Impact Fund

Our take: As expected, today’s big news was an expansion on Apple’s prior social justice initiatives: these are wonderful. Great interview with Cook on CBS below.

  • Apple has ‘big announcement’ happening on Wednesday

Apple has ‘big announcement’ happening on Wednesday

The news: Apple has a “big announcement” scheduled for tomorrow, according to a recent interview with CBS.

    • Gayle King calls the announcement “very exciting” with full details coming through an interview with Tim Cook on January 13
    • What do we know about tomorrow? “It is not a new product…” King says. “It’s something I think bigger and better than that”

Our take: Bigger than a new product? Have a feeling this is going to be a big privacy announcement/service of some kind.

  • Apple announcement planned for morning of December 8

Apple announcement planned for morning of December 8

The rumor: Apple really does have one more thing coming before the end of 2020, according to MacRumors (70% accurate).

    • In a leaked memo provided to AppleCare servicers, Apple says to prepare for ‘new product SKUs, new/updated product descriptions, and new/updated product pricing’
    • Apple says the release is happening next week, around 5:30 am PST on Tuesday, December 8

Our take: I believe this 100%. With L0vetodream’s (88.9% accurate) prior prediction of some surprise, this lines up to a tee.
