iPhone SE 3 likely coming in 2022 with 5G & similar design

The rumor: We won’t be seeing a new iPhone SE model this year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (78.2% accurate).

    • Here’s what Kuo says to expect on the third-generation iPhone SE:
      • 4.7-inch display
      • Similar design
      • Faster processor
      • 5G
    • Apple may launch this new iPhone SE in the first half of 2022

Our take: Kuo is in disagreement with Macotakara (68.6% accurate) who believes a new iPhone SE is launching within the next couple of months. Going to believe Kuo here, who is 10% more accurate.

  • iPhone 13 may get 120Hz display, new ultra-wide lens & larger batteries

iPhone 13 may get 120Hz display, new ultra-wide lens & larger batteries

The rumor: Apple is planning a handful of upgrades for the 2021 iPhones, according to a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo (78.2% accurate).

Here’s the latest (new info is bolded):

    • Same 5.4/6.1/6.7-inch displays but now with LTPO 120Hz support
    • Upgraded ultra-wide angle camera with new 6 element ƒ/1.8 lens
    • All models will be slightly heavier due to larger internal batteries
    • USB-C not coming this year
    • LiDAR only on Pro models

Our take: If you had to pick a weak point for iPhone 12, I would definitely consider it to be the battery life. It’s good right now, but I’m ready for it to be great. We just haven’t seen much mobile battery innovation from Apple in recent history.

    • In addition to the SD card reader returning, a physical HDMI port may also see its return to the MacBook Pro lineup

Our take: This is incredible news from a super credible source. Fantastic that we are getting more I/O back on a notebook that never should have lost it.

    • Kuo also expects new AirPods, MacBook Pro models and AirTags to drop in 2021, as well

Our take: I could see at least the announcement of this AR/VR headset this year. No Apple Glass, though, the full-on pair of AR glasses: those aren’t coming until likely 2022/2023.

  • iPhone 13 to launch in September 2021, per usual

iPhone 13 to launch in September 2021, per usual

    • This information suggests that the new iPhone models will launch in September 2021, rather than the October/November timeline we saw this year
    • Current iPhone 13 rumors include a 120Hz display on Pro models, and the return of Touch ID

Our take: With most companies learning how to work better throughout a pandemic, it sounds very realistic that the iPhones next year will launch as they have historically…in September.

Apple may release ‘2 or 3 new chargers in 2021’

The rumor: Apple is planning to expand their lineup of charging products in 2021, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (78% accurate).

    • Without further detail, Kuo says Apple will likely release ‘2 or 3 new chargers’ sometime next year
    • Kuo was one of the first to reveal that Apple was working on new, non-AirPower charging products for 2020

Our take: Have a feeling these will have some MagSafe slant to them, although it’s impressive the number of products out already that use Apple’s 20W power brick (e.g. iPhone 12, HomePod mini, MagSafe & MagSafe Duo).

    • Kuo now expects upgraded AirPods in April-June 2021
    • AirPods 3 will likely share a hybrid design between AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro

Our take: A bit disappointing, but this is only a brief push back from the February/March timeframe. Excited for the upgraded, non-in-ear design.

  • Numerous redesigned Macs likely coming in the second half of 2021

    • The last time the Apple Watch saw a significant design change was in 2018 with the Series 4

Our take: Curious to see what direction the Apple Watch will go, design-wise. Maybe sharper edges like iPhone 12?

2021 iPhones expected in same 4 sizes, ultra-wide camera getting significant upgrades

Apple is planning to launch another 4 flagship iPhone models in 2021, according to Ming-Chi Kuo (77.5% accurate) and spotted first by Apple Terminal.

    • Sizing (5.4, 6.1 and 6.7-inches) will remain the same moving into next year
    • On the Pro models, the ultra wide lens will be “significantly upgraded” with wider aperture and improved autofocus
    • Per usual, the iPhone 13 series is expected to drop in the fourth quarter of the year

Our take: Treat any of these earlier rumors for next year’s iPhones with heavy skepticism. That being said, Kuo is known to be really good with early details for new iPhones. 4 sizes staying the same is a good thing in my eyes.
