Sam’s take: I’m almost certain that this is the right date (Apple always holds WWDC in the first or second week of June). But I am skeptical that it’ll be in-person. Sure, COVID-19 cases are steadily decreasing now. But isn’t it possible that another, even more transmissible variant could appear by June? I have no doubt that Apple will take the utmost precaution to keep everyone safe if WWDC 2022 is in-person…but it seems like there’s still a lot of risk in returning to large gatherings right now. I would be comfortable attending, but I can also understand that a lot of folks would not feel the same way.
Note: As you may have noticed, no source is perfect. That’s because even the best get some info right and some info wrong: do not harass anyone for their track record. The leaderboard functionality on AppleTrack is here only to help tech enthusiasts better understand how likely a rumor really is.
As always, if you notice a discrepancy on someone’s record, let us know.
Our take: I’ve seen a lot of takes that ‘this was just for SEO’ or ‘wow, Apple is so genius for optimizing the video based on rumors’ but I disagree completely. Every rumor pointed to a new MacBook Pro coming at this event, and it seems like Apple decided to push it back last minute.
Our take: Apple has been hinting extensively at upgrades to the Messages app, but we hadn’t previously heard about improvements coming to Safari or Maps. We’ll find out how big iOS 15 really is in just three days.
The leak: Apple has revealed the existence and naming of a new operating system in an Apple Music job listing, as spotted first by Javier Lacort.
“You’ll get to work with system engineers across Apple, learning the inner-workings of iOS, watchOS, tvOS and homeOS,” the job listing says
Apple could announce the new operating system as soon as next week, at WWDC 2021
Our take: This is the second time we’ve had an all-new operating system spoiled ahead of the annual developer keynote. First was iPadOS a few years back, and now homeOS thanks to this job listing. With no detail about what exactly homeOS is, I’m assuming it will only run on the HomePods?
