  • 120Hz display cut from iPhone 12 Pro

120Hz display cut from iPhone 12 Pro

The rumor: After months of back-and-forth on whether or not we would see 120Hz display technology on iPhone 12 Pro, it hasn’t made the cut…according to Jon Prosser (67.6% accurate).

    • Apple wasn’t able to able to get 120Hz displays working on their high-end lineup this year
    • Other sources think 120Hz will come to iPhone in 2021
    • Mass production for the iPhone 12 is now in full swing, ahead of an October launch for some models

Our take: It’s official: 120Hz isn’t coming this year. I’m bummed. But more so, I’m genuinely curious at this point what the big sell of the higher-end iPhones will be.

  • Hands-on video of iPhone 12 chassis leaked

Hands-on video of iPhone 12 chassis leaked

The leak: Ahead of release sometime next month, we have our clearest look yet at what the final design for the iPhone 12 may be, according to EverythingApplePro.

    https://twitter.com/EveryApplePro/status/1304529976486776833?s=20
    • The casing shown in the video is apparently a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro
    • A LiDAR sensor is sitting below the same triple camera layout as last year
    • There’s also what looks to be a magnetic cutout inside the phone and a new 5G antenna area on the side

Our take: EverythingApplePro says that this is a legitimate chassis. At first it looked off to me, but then I found some older photos of other iPhone chassis. They’re pretty comparable in the sense that they are both rough around the edges and don’t look as close to the end product as you would think.

  • Apple Watch ‘SE’ coming next week with Series 4 design

Apple Watch ‘SE’ coming next week with Series 4 design

The rumor: A new, lower-cost Apple Watch with the design of the Series 4 is coming next week at Apple’s September 15 event, according to Jon Prosser (67.6% accurate).

    • The Series 4-designed Watch will come in 40 and 44mm sizes
    • But some major features from the Series 5 will be missing: both ECG and the always-on display won’t be present
    • An M9 chip will be inside

Our take: To me, these specs sound pretty much spot-on. It’s a solid balance between not as new as the Series 5 but not too old like the Series 3.

  • Apple confirms ‘Apple Watch Series 6’ name and announcement

Apple confirms ‘Apple Watch Series 6’ name and announcement

The news: Ahead of their September 15 event, Apple has confirmed some of what will be announced, as spotted by Gui Rambo.

    • ‘Apple Watch Series 6’ is confirmed to be the name of this year’s flagship wearable
    • Thus, an announcement at the event early next week has also been solidified
    • The information was accidentally leaked in the metadata for Apple’s upcoming livestream, which AppleTrack has verified

Our take: Oops. If you weren’t convinced already, the Apple Watch Series 6 will be the big announcement at Apple’s event next week.

  • Apple announces official September 15 event

Apple announces official September 15 event

The news: Apple has announced an official September event taking place in just under a week on September 15.

    • Rather than announcing a new iPhone, Mark Gurman (86.7% accurate) believes a new iPad and Apple Watch will be announced
    • The iPhone 12 event is likely happening later in October

Our take: Wow. New Apple products in just a week. Can’t wait to see the Apple Watch Series 6 and redesigned iPad Air become official.

  • Sources split on Apple’s September 8 announcement

Sources split on Apple’s September 8 announcement

The latest: Ahead of some announcement on apple.com tomorrow morning, sources are split on what Apple what the contents of the press release will be.

    • Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman (86.7% accurate) believes that tomorrow’s newsroom update will be an announcement for the September Special Event
    • Front Page Tech owner Jon Prosser (77.8% accurate) says we’ll be seeing a new Apple Watch…and potentially a revamped iPad Air
    • Both sources agree that something is happening within the next 24 hours

Our take: Neither source is backing down on what they think we’ll be seeing tomorrow, and while Gurman’s track record exceeds Prosser’s in longevity and accuracy…it’s a close race. AppleTrack will keep you updated: see you in 12 hours.

  • Many Apple Watch Series 5 models are out of stock at Apple & Verizon

Many Apple Watch Series 5 models are out of stock at Apple & Verizon

The news: Ahead of some announcement on apple.com tomorrow, Apple Watch Series 5 models are out of stock at Apple and Verizon.

    • Jon Prosser (77.8% accurate) believes a new Apple Watch will be announced tomorrow morning
    • 3 of the 4 Apple Watch Series 5 models are currently out of stock on apple.com
    • Verizon is also seeing shortages on their online store, per Jon Prosser

Our take: All of this is pretty convincing at this point. It’s the night before Apple is announcing something in less than 24 hours and this is adding fuel to the fire. All I’m saying is this: I’ve seen similar scenarios play out in the past…due to coincidence..and stock shortages have been just that. A shortage on stock for some particular product.

  • Apple Watch ‘SE’ may lack ECG feature

Apple Watch ‘SE’ may lack ECG feature

The rumor: The upcoming, l0wer-end Apple Watch may be a modified version of the existing Series 5, according to L0vetodream (89.2% accurate).

    • The lower-end Apple Watch could be a Series 5 model, but without the ECG feature
      • Presumably, Apple would leave out other features, too
    • Mark Gurman (86.7% accurate) recently rumored the Fall release of a cheaper Apple Watch to replace the current Series 3 model

Our take: L0vetodream’s crazy-good track record is going to lead me to believe this…although I do find it a bit strange that this “lower-end Apple Watch” is more or less as good as last year’s flagship model. To me, offering the Apple Watch Series 4 without ECG would be more realistic.
