The rumor: Apple is planning significant upgrades to the auxiliary lenses across iPhone 13 models, according to Barclays (64.7% accurate, via MacRumors).
All iPhone 13 models may get an upgraded ultra-wide lens with ƒ/1.8 aperture (currently ƒ/2.2), which will allow more light inside for better-looking photos
iPhone 13 Pro is also said to be getting the telephoto lens upgrades currently found on iPhone 12 Pro Max, with a 2.5x optical zoom and ƒ/2.2 aperture
Our take: I’m consistently disappointed in many of the photos I take on the current ultra-wide camera, as there’s almost always some level of grain present even in moderate lighting. This upgraded aperture won’t eliminate that entirely, but will be a significant move forward.
Note: As you may have noticed, no source is 100% accurate. That’s because all sources get some info right and some info wrong: do not harass anyone for their track record. The leaderboard functionality on AppleTrack is here only to help Apple enthusiasts better understand how likely a rumor really is.
As always, if you notice a discrepancy on someone’s record, let us know.
The rumor: Not only will EarPods not be included with the iPhone 12 this year, a charger might not be free, either, according to Barclays (57.9% accurate).
Only a USB-C to Lightning cable will be included in the box, alongside the device itself
Announcement for all of the new phones is said to happen in September
The analysts also say that due to production delays, some models won’t be available until October or November
Our take: While the iPhone is rumored to go portless next year, it wouldn’t make any sense to remove the charging brick this year. I think Barclays will miss the mark on this one. Why would saving a couple of dollars be worth frustrating the vast majority of your buyer-base? Doesn’t make any sense to me.
