Sources agree refreshed Apple TV likely delayed until 2021

The rumor: Apple no longer has plans to update the Apple TV this year, according to Jon Prosser (85.2% accurate).

  • The Apple TV 6, which may have an A12x processor inside and redesigned remote, is now scheduled to release sometime in 2021
  • Mark Gurman (87.8% accurate) also suggested that the Apple TV originally scheduled for this year had been pushed back
  • However, The Verifier (51.9% accurate) maintains that a new model is still coming in November or December of this year

Our take: For once, Gurman and Prosser agree on this one: no new Apple TV this year. Sigh. Not that there are a ton of Apple TV fans drooling over the idea of an updated model, but 3 years without an update is a bit much.

AirTags & iOS 14.3 may ship as soon as November

The rumor: Apple is preparing to release AirTags and another significant update to iOS 14 before the end of the year, according to Jon Prosser (84.7% accurate).

  • AirTags, Apple’s Tile-like tracking accessory, could debut in November after months of delays
  • iOS 14.3, also scheduled to ship in November, is said to include support for AirTags
  • AirPods Studio have reportedly been pushed back due to production issues

Our take: In the past few months, Prosser has gotten a seriously good pulse on when new products are coming…and when they aren’t. The only argument against release AirTags now is that…a whole bunch of people sit and work from home all day so they’re not exactly losing their stuff. iOS 14.3 in November sounds about right, though, with iOS 14.1 and 14.2 likely dropping later this month.

iPad Air shipments arrive at Apple Stores as release date may be announced on Tuesday

The news: Shipments of the new iPad Air have arrived at Apple Stores as the launch nears, according to Mark Gurman (87.8% accurate).

Our take: Apple has said that the new iPad Air would launch in October. All the evidence suggests it is happening next week!

‘Luxury’ AirPods Studio may cost $599, not coming next week

The rumor: Apple’s upcoming over-ear headphones will have an emphasis on the high-end, according to Jon Prosser (74.5% accurate).

  • There will be two variants:
    • Luxury: made of leather/metal for $599
    • Sport: made of cheaper materials for $349
  • According to Prosser, AriPods Studio will not be debuting at next week’s event

Our take: So $599 for headphones is insane. I’m not saying there’s not a market for them or that no one will buy them, but these will be in the same price-tier as some of the highest-end headphones in the world. Fascinated to see how these $599 AirPods will be marketed.

  • Apple is holding a special event next week on October 13
  • AirPods Studio are said to feature neck detection, reversibility, Siri and more

Our take: These headphones have been rumored to be coming soon for well over two years now. This time, it seems like soon might actually be happening.

iPhone 12 event announcement may happen as soon as tomorrow

The rumor: Apple is planning to send ‘invites’ out for a Special Event in October as soon as tomorrow, according to Jon Prosser (72.7% accurate).

  • Prior to Apple’s September 15 event, invites were sent out 7 days in advance on September 8
  • The October event, where iPhone 12 and AirTags will be unveiled, is said to take place on Tuesday, October 13

Our take: October 13 has been pretty unanimously agreed upon by a number of sources in the community. Based on what happened in September, tomorrow seems highly likely for an event announcement to me.

iPhone 12 Pro lineup to start at 128GB storage

The leak: The iPhone 12 Pro lineup will ship with the highest base storage ever in an iPhone, according to Jon Prosser (72.7% accurate).

  • 128GB may be the base variant for Pro models of the iPhone 12 this year
  • iPhone 12 and 12 mini could start at 64GB, with the option to go up to 256GB

Our take: 128GB as the starting capacity in the Pro series is just so great. It’s a small upgrade, but something that many power users will love. 64GB on the lower-end lineup is fine.

Apple’s next special event may happen on October 13

The rumor: Apple’s next event may be taking place on October 13, according to AppleInsider (not yet rated).

  • An anonymous tipster told AppleInsider the date for the next special event is Tuesday, October 13
  • Jon Prosser (72.7% accurate) has since corroborated this date, as it aligns with his rumor from weeks ago

Our take: Privately, AppleTrack heard something was happening around this time, too. And it sounds about right. Apple said the new iPhones would be coming “a few weeks later” than usual. That being said, there’s only been one October iPhone event before: marketing wise, wouldn’t it make more sense to do the iPhone 12 event…on the 12th?

120Hz display cut from iPhone 12 Pro

The rumor: After months of back-and-forth on whether or not we would see 120Hz display technology on iPhone 12 Pro, it hasn’t made the cut…according to Jon Prosser (67.6% accurate).

  • Apple wasn’t able to able to get 120Hz displays working on their high-end lineup this year
  • Other sources think 120Hz will come to iPhone in 2021
  • Mass production for the iPhone 12 is now in full swing, ahead of an October launch for some models

Our take: It’s official: 120Hz isn’t coming this year. I’m bummed. But more so, I’m genuinely curious at this point what the big sell of the higher-end iPhones will be.
