New picture shows production equipment at Apple Park ahead of September event

The news: Apple executive Lisa Jackson has updated her profile picture on Twitter, and it could hint at the next Apple event that is just around the corner.

  • In the background of Jackson’s new profile picture, seen above, production equipment including lighting and what appears to be audio/lighting controllers can be seen in the foyer outside of the Steve Jobs Theater
  • Apple is rumored to hold their first hardware event of the Fall in September, as is tradition for the company
  • “Lisa Jackson is Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, reporting to CEO Tim Cook,” as noted on Apple’s leadership page

Our take: Pretty surprising to see even this small peek into what appears to be a recent shoot at Apple Park…presumably for the upcoming event(s) in September. What’s clear is that Apple was at least producing something recently outside of the Steve Jobs Theater…

Gurman: Apple holding multiple special events this Fall

The rumor: Apple may be holding multiple product launch events this Fall, according to Mark Gurman (88.8% accurate, via Power On).

  • “I believe there will be multiple virtual Apple events this fall given all of the new incoming hardware and software” Gurman says
  • Apple held September, October and November special events in 2020 to announce a comparable amount of new products

Our take: I think two events happening is a for-sure thing, and three events is a strong maybe. I’d put my bets on September and October.

Apple Watch ‘SE’ coming next week with Series 4 design

The rumor: A new, lower-cost Apple Watch with the design of the Series 4 is coming next week at Apple’s September 15 event, according to Jon Prosser (67.6% accurate).

  • The Series 4-designed Watch will come in 40 and 44mm sizes
  • But some major features from the Series 5 will be missing: both ECG and the always-on display won’t be present
  • An M9 chip will be inside

Our take: To me, these specs sound pretty much spot-on. It’s a solid balance between not as new as the Series 5 but not too old like the Series 3.

Apple Watch Series 5 models out of stock ahead of rumored September refresh

The news: A number of Apple Watch Series 5 models on are currently unavailable, spotted initially by Tailosive Tech.

  • The 44mm GPS + LTE version of the Apple Watch Series 5 is currently unavailable, and other models aren’t available for pickup at many Apple Stores
  • Apple recently registered new iPads and watches in the Eurasian database
  • Jon Prosser (77.8% accurate) has also said that new iPads and watches are coming in September

Our take: Everything at this point suggests new Apple Watch an iPad models are coming very soon. Looks like they’ll be dropping ahead of Apple’s October Special Event after all.
